Irish Stew of Sindidun – 15 Years of Career

In a series of concerts celebrating 15 years on the Serbian music scene, the band “Irish Stew of Sindidun” performed at the “Alternativni Kulturni Centar” (eng. Alternative Culture Center) on the night between December 21st and 22nd (2019). The local audience was happy to receive the unusual sound of Irish folklore and had a great time.

We have great Impressions. We are in Jagodina for the first time in these 16 years. There weren’t some venues, at least not that we knew, and this is the first time we’ve received an invitation. It was phenomenal. – said Bojan Petrović (vocals and flute) immediately after the concert.

Since the first album they have the same set of instruments: drums, bass guitar, acoustic guitar – and of these “more unusual” instruments, traditionally associated with Irish folklore – there are the flute, violin and banjo.

We privately listened to and played Irish music even before that first concert in 2003 was played. We played for “our soul” in front of our friends and came up with the idea: “why don’t we do a concert?”. That first concert went great and somehow, by inertia, the second and the third followed – and here we are 16 years later. As for club gigs, we have played in over 50 cities across Serbia. We have played at almost all important festivals in the country, and we have been abroad for the last couple of years – in Italy, Germany, Austria – considering that they have the so-called “Irish festivals” and we occasionally receive invitations, so we are active “abroad” too. – said Bojan Petrović regarding the history of the band.

Their melodic rock compositions colored by Irish folklore have always aroused beautiful feelings in the audience and created a good atmosphere. They have four albums behind them, and they are currently working on the fifth.

The most important thing in our 15-year career are those albums and songs that we recorded. That is the most important thing for every music author. Those albums are like children to us and that is what is remembered and remains in the history of the band. The gigs somehow come and go – some we remember, some a little less – but the albums remain. – Bojan Petrović pointed out.

Those who do not know enough about Irish folklore often wonder what is behind the name of the band and why that name.

“Irish Stew” is actually an Irish national dish like some of our stews, but the key thing is that it is originally made with mutton. “Sindidun” is the old Celtic name for Belgrade, so the name of the band refers to “Irish goulash by the Belgrade recipe”, i.e. in “our” way. – Bojan Petrović explains what the full name of the band “Irish Stew of Sindidun” actually means.

ANA DJOKIĆ AND “IRISH STEW”

One of the members of the band (Ana Djokić, violin) is also one of the former founders of the band “Orthodox Celts”. She was not on our rock scene for ten years because she was involved in classical music. She has decided to return after a long time and has been playing and performing with the band “Irish Stew” for a couple of years now.
